Keerai Kootu and Coin Potato Roast Recipe
Tamil Nadu Hotel Style Keerai Kootu recipe paired with Coin Potato Roast. Keerai Kootu is made with a combination of Masoor Dal and Chana Dal. This type of keerai kootu will be there in South Indian Full meals Menu. How to make Keerai Kootu in a Pressure Cooker:

Hotel Style Keerai Kootu Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Masoor Dal/Moong Dal
- 3 tbsp Chana Dal
- 2 bunch Spinach(any type of Spinach)
- 2 tsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 dried red chilies
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 3 garlic pods finely chopped
- 1 tomato finely chopped
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Soak ¼ cup of Masoor Dal/Moong Dal + 3 tbsp chana for 30 mins before cooking. Hepls to cook the dal faster and softer.
- Take any keerai(i am using palak), wash & chop them you can use the stem too.
- Now heat a pressure cooker, add 2 tsp oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 2 dried red chilies, hing. Let the mustard seeds splutter.
- Add finely chopped 3 Garlic cloves, 1 Finely chopped onion & tomato saute well.
- Add the Chopped Keerai, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chili powder, and 1 tsp salt and saute well. Once the keerai cooked well.
- Add the soaked dals and mix well. Add ½ cup water. Pressure Cook for 3 whistles. That’s it Keera Kootu ready!
Notes
A combination of Both the dals is very important don’t skip.
The same recipe you can try with Cabbage, Chow Chow, or any vegetables too.
you can skip onion garlic too

Coin Potato Roast Recipe:
Crispy and Spicy Coin Shaped Potato fry recipe for rasam rice, curd rice, and sambar rice. A simple recipe made with pantry ingredients, less oil, made in a cast iron pan, and no sambar powder or grinding of any masala. Quick and easy recipe, very good to pack for travel also.
How to make Coin Potato Roast:
Ingredients
- 250 g Baby Potatoes/Big Potatoes
- 1 tsp Fennel Seeds
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- Take 250g Potatoes, wash and slice them into circles, Not too thin or thick. Rinse in water so the excess starch will go off.
- Into a Motar Pestle add 1 tsp fennel seeds,keep aside.
- Heat a cast iron pan, add 1 tbsp oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds and crushed fennel seeds. Let the mustrad seeds to splutter. Add 1 sprig curry leaves.
- Now add the sliced potatoes, 2 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt. Roast on low flame for 10 mins or till the potatoes turn golden.
- Coin Potato Roast is ready to serve!
