Kovakkai Fry Recipe, Air fryer Ivy gourd 65, Kovakkai pakoda
Crispy Spicy Kovakkai 65, Kovakkai Varuval, crispy kovakkai fry requires only a few ingredients in less than 15 mins. How to make Kovakkai 65 in Airfryer and Deep fried Kovakkai fry. Both methods are well explained in this post. Kovakkai fry is made with besan flour based, no maida and no artificial colour is used so a healthy version of Kovakkai fry. It goes well with biryani or any variety of rice or simple with curd rice. What is Kovakkai Fry/Kovakkai 65/Pakoda?
Kovakkai is the Tamil name of the vegetables Tindora(ivy gourd). Thinly sliced ivy gourd stripes are coated with besan flour(chickpea flour) and then mixed with some spice powders marinated and then deep-fired or air-fried called Kovakkai 65 or we may call it Kovakkai Pakoda. Very tasty and delicious dish. An ideal way to introduce ivy gourd to kids.
How to make Kovakkai Fry Recipe, Crispy Ivy gourd 65, Kovakkai pakora(deep fried and Air fried):
Deep Fried Kovakkai 65/ Ivy gourd fry Recipe Card:
Kovakkai fry/Ivy Gourd 65/Tindora roast
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup besan flour(kadalai maavu)
- 1/4 cup rice flour(arisi maavu)
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp kashmiri chili powder
- 1/4 tsp fennel powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 300 gram Tindora/Ivy gourd/kovakkai
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Take 300g wash and Cut the ivy gourd into strips. Add it to a mixing bowl.
- Add 1/3 cup of besan flour, 1/4 cup of rice flour, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp kashmiri chili powder, 1 tsp chili powder, 1/4 tsp fennel powder, 1 tsp salt. mix well with the ivy gourd strips.
- Don't add water intially, mix them well. Make sure the ivy gourd strips are coat well. Now sprinkl water little by little and mix well. It should tight coating not loosely coated.
- Once coasted you can rest it for 15 mins and then fry them or you can fry immedietely.
- Heat oil in a Kadai on medium heat, drop slowlly one batch of ivy gourd strips and fry them. Don't turn it immedietly once added.
- Turn the other side flip and fry them. once it turn crips. Remove from oil.
- Crispy Ivy Gourd fry is ready to serve!
How to make Kovakkai 65, kovakkai varuval in Air Fryer:
- Take 300g wash and Cut the ivy gourd into strips. Add it to a mixing bowl.
- Add 1/3 cup of besan flour, 1/4 cup of rice flour, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder, 1 tsp chili powder, 1/4 tsp fennel powder, 1 tsp salt. mix well with the ivy gourd strips.
- Don’t add water initially, mix them well. Make sure the ivy gourd strips coat well.
- Now sprinkle water little by little and mix well. It should tight coating not loosely coated.
- Once coasted you can rest it for 15 mins and then fry them or you can fry them immediately.
- Into the air fryer basket arrange the kovaikkai(don’t overcrowd them). If the basket is small fry them in batches.
- set at 200 degrees for 20 mins. in between open the basket shake and fry them.
- In 15 to 20 mins the kovakkai fry will be ready. Check once it turns crips remove them.
- Air Fried Kovakkai fry ready!
