Red Bell Pepper Recipe with Onion, Tomato & Green Chili. Sutta Kudamilagai (Smoky Red Capsicum) Chutney goes well with idli dosa and all types of tiffin items. There are too many ways of making the Red Capsicum Chutney but this one is so so delicious with a smoky flavor and a nutty smell of chutney. South Indian(Tamilnadu) Chutneys like Sutta thakkali Chutney Sutta Kathirikai Chutney Sutta Pirandai Thogaiyal are more famous. Being a South Indian making chutney is somehow easy for me since it is an everyday task because we have mostly idli and dosa for breakfast. Especially this chutney is very close to my heart because this I often make at home and everyone loves it.

What is Sutta Kudamilagai Chutney?

Kudamilagai(the Tamil name of Capsicum) is nothing but bell peppers. The bell pepper is seasoned with oil and then burn in direct flame till the skin turns black. Then it is pealed and ground with onion, tomatoes, and green chili and is called Sutta Kudamilagai Chutney.

Kudamilagai(Red Bell Pepper) Chutney

Spicy Bell Pepper Tomato Chutney, Kudamilagai Chutney

Ingredients
  

  • 200 g 1 big Bell Pepper(200g),
  • 2   Tomatoes
  • 2 Big Onion
  • 4 to 5 Green Chilies
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Apply a tsp of oil on 1 big Bell Pepper(200g),  2 tomatoes, 2 onions, 4 to 5 Green chilies.
  • Keep them on wire mesh over Direct Flame and let them roast on medium flame turning all the sides.
  • Roast until the bell pepper, tomatoes skin is burnt and softened from inside.
  • Transfer the roasted Bell Pepper, tomatoes, onion and green chilli to the mixie jar and add a tsp salt. Grind it to a fine paste.
  • Make Tadka, Heat a Pan add a tsp mustard seeds, urad dal let it splutter add curry leaves. Add the ground chutney and mix well.
  • Once it starts to thicken switch off the stove. That's it Red Bell Pepper Chutney ready!

Notes

Instead green chilies you can use red chilies. You can skip onion too.

Step By Step Red Bell Pepper/ Capisicum Chutney Recipe:

  1. Apply a tsp of oil on 1 big Bell Pepper(200g),  2 tomatoes, 2 onions, 4 to 5 Green chilies. Keep them on wire mesh over Direct Flame and let them roast on medium flame turning all the sides. 
  2. Roast until the bell pepper, tomatoes skin is burnt and softened from inside. 
  3. Switch off the stove and keep them aside and until it gets cooled down completely
  4. once all are cooled, peel the skin and chop them. 
  5. Transfer the roasted Bell Pepper, tomatoes, onion and green chilli to the mixie jar and add a tsp salt. Grind it to a fine paste.
  6. Heat a Pan add a tsp mustard seeds, urad dal let it splutter add curry leaves. Add the ground chutney and mix well.
  7. Once it starts to thicken switch off the stove. That’s it Red capsicum tomato chtueny ready!
