Tiffin Sambar using Toor Dal Recipe is the post I have shared long back. This sambar is made with toor dal similar to the Annapurna hotel style sambar recipe.

What is Tiffin Sambar?? Sambar made with Toor Dal or Moong Dal, suitable for tiffin items like idli, Pongal, vadai are called tiffin sambar.

Will Tiffin Sambar tastes good with rice? I cant say YES. I don’t prefer tiffin sambar with rice.

Ingredients
  • ½ cup moong dal
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • curry leaves
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 3 green chilies chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 cup of vegetables of your choice
  • 2 cups of water
  • coriander leaves for Garnishing
Instructions
  1. Soak ½ cup moong dal in water for 30 mins before cooking so that it will cook fast and soft.
  2. Keep in Saute mode. add 1 tsp oil. add 1 tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp cumin seeds. Let the seeds splutter.
  3. Add 2 dried red chilies, curry leaves, 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped tomato, 3 green chilies, saute well.
  4. add 1 tsp salt, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chili powder saute well till the raw smell goes off.
  5. add 1 cup of vegetables, 2 cups of water mix well.
  6. Close the lid and make sure the vent is sealed.
  7. Cancel the saute mode and set pressure cook for 10 mins.
  8. After 10 mins, let the pressure release by itself and then open the lid.
  9. Sambar is now ready to serve.
  10. Serve hot sambar with idli, vada, dosa, Pongal.
Notes
soaking of moong dal helps the dal cook very fast.
you can use vegetables of your choice, without vegetables also sambar tastes good.
the Same recipe you can try with moong dal, but moong dal sambar needs tamarind.

How to make Simple Tiffin Sambar using Moong Dal in Instant Pot,

♥️Soak 1/2 cup moong dal in water for 30 mins before cooking, this helps moong dal to be cooked well & fast.
♥️Keep in Saute mode. add 1 tsp oil. add 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds. Let the seeds splutter.
♥️Add 2 dried red chilies, curry leaves, 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped tomato, 3 green chilies, saute well.
add 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chili powder saute well till the raw smell goes off.

Instant pot Tiffin Sambar
♥️Add 1 cup of vegetables, saute for a few seconds & then add moong dal + 2 cups of water mix well.
Close the lid and make sure the vent is sealed.
♥️Cancel the saute mode and set pressure cook for 10 mins.
After 10 mins, let the pressure release by itself and then open the lid.
♥️Sambar is now ready to serve. Garnish with coriander leaves &  serve hot.
Serve hot steaming sambar with idli, vada, dosa, Pongal, or any tiffin items.

Tips &  Tricks to make Perfect Tiffin Sambar recipe,

✅Soaking moong dal helps the dal cook very fast.
✅You can use vegetables of your choice, but without vegetables also sambar tastes good.
✅The Same recipe you can try with toor dal, but toor dal sambar needs tamarind.
✅This sambar stays good for 1 or 2 days in the fridge, moong dal sambar will spoil soon.
