Red Coconut Chutney recipe, RED CHILLI COCONUT CHUTNEY, How to make simple Coconut Chutney with dried red chilies, Kanja milagai Thengai Chutney. Chinna Vengayam Thalicha Thengai Chutney. Red chili Coconut chutney with idli or dosa is an amazing combo. This coconut chutney is a little special because it is Chinna vengayam thalicha (shallots tempered) chutney recipe in detail below.
Usual Coconut chutney is made with green chiles and this chutney is made with dried red chilies. more than red chilies the specialty of chutney is Thalippu that is tempering. Golden brown shallots added tastes to this chutney.
This is my Mom’s Signature chutney recipe, till date she grinds chutney in Ammi, not mixie. She makes various types of chutney this is one among them. Her thalippu(tadka) for chutney has Hing which another level taste. Just try this recipe once you will makes this chutney again and again.

Red Coconut Chutney recipe, RED CHILLI COCONUT CHUTNEY recipe card
- ½ cup freshly grated coconut
- 3 to 4 dried red chilies
- a generous pinch of tamarind
- 2 tbsp roasted gram(pottukadalai)
- 2 shallots(optional)
- ½ tsp salt
- Add all the ingredients to a mixie jar, grind it without water first.
- so that the chilies will grind thoroughly
- open the lid add 3 to 4 tbsp of water grind it to a smooth paste.
- transfer the chutney to a bowl, add little water(2 to 3 tbsp) to the mixie jar, keep it.
- Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan(low to medium flame), once the oil becomes hot add the mustard seeds, urad dal wait for a sec let the mustard seeds splutter.
- Add the hing, curry leaves. Fry it for 2 to 3 sec and then add 3 to 4 shallots thinly sliced. fry well till it turns golden.
- Once done add the tempering over the chutney and pour reserved water which is the mixie jar. Mix well.
- Red coconut chutney is ready to serve.
Adjust the red chilies according to your spice level

How to grind Red Coconut Chutney,
Add all the ingredients to a mixie jar, grind it without water first.

Notes:
- Always use fresh coconut
- Adjust the chili according to your spice level
- Tadka is very important to the red chili chutney Don’t skip it.
