Poondu Chutney Recipe Only 3 Ingredients, Easy Garlic chutney(Tamil Style)

Simple, Quick, and Easy Poondu Chutney Recipe for idli dosa side dish recipe.🔥Chinna Vengaya Poondu Chutney(garlic chutney made with Shallots), Hot steaming idlis with simple Garlic chutney makes our day bright and shiny. I know there are many chutney fans, every day we want to try a new type of chutney since our breakfast is mostly idli dosa based.  Simple samalifications in Ingredients make the chutney tastier. This Garlic Chutney has shallots and Garlic, making the chutney tastier. Best Part is that it will be good for a long.

Long back I have shared Garlic chutney, amma’s version she adds tomato to make the chutney creamy(THAKKALI POONDU THOGAIYAL). This Garlic chutney is my version the shallots make the garlic chutney tasty and delicious. Just give it a try you will love this Chutney.

What is Poondu Kara Chutney??? spicy Red chilies are Ground with Hill Garlic and are called Poondu Kara Chutney. The taste is vera level, come let’s make the simple Garlic chutney at home.

Ingredients & Substitute for Garlic Chutney(Poondu Chutney):

  • 1 tbsp Gingelly oil: Sauting in Gingelly oil gives a nice taste to the chutney so try to make it in Gingelly oil.
  • 10 Garlic: Try to use Hill Garlic(India Garlic) it’s very healthy and good for health too.
  • 10 Shallots: Adding Shallots reduces the hotness of the chili and garlic. Good for our Tummy too.
  • 4 Kashmiri chilies & 3 Normal Chilies: Adjust the number of chilies according to your spice level. Adding Kashmiri Chilies gives nice color and Creamy texture to the chutney. You can add only normal chilies too.
  • A Small Gooseberry-sized Tamarind: Adding Tamarind gives a sour taste so don’t skip.
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup water for grinding the garlic chutney!

📝How to make Simple Garlic Chutney:


1️⃣Heat a pan with 1 tbsp oil, add 4 Kashmiri chilies and 3 dried red chilies, 10 garlic pods, 10 shallots, and a small goose berry-sized tamarind, and saute well till the onion and garlic become soft. 


2️⃣Switch off the stove, cool down completely, and then transfer it to a mixie jar, add little water and salt, and grind it to a fine paste.

✅️That’s it Garlic chutney is ready to serve!

You serve Garlic Chutney with Hot steaming Idli(idli recipe here) or with Dosa(Dosa Recipe here) etc.
