Tomato Sevai Recipe, Thakkali Sevai, Thakkali Idiyappam Sevai Recipe with step by step Photos and video recipe. Thakkali Sevai or Tomato Sandhagai is made of instant rice Sevai(idiyappam) with tasty and spicy tomato Sevai. Very famous South Indian Breakfast recipe which is suitable for Lunchbox also. Tomato Sevai is the Rice Vermicelli spiced with Thakkali(Tamil). Similar to that of  Thakkali Sadam, a delicacy of  Tamilnadu cuisine.

This is my second Sevai Recipe after I have posted the Lemon Sevai Recipe, Lemon Sandhagai, Lemon Idiyappam Sevai recipe. My Favourite Sevai Variety. This Indian Style Noodles recipe is everyone fav. I have used the chopped tomatoes to make this Tomato Sevai. You can use tomato Puree also if you want to make it very fast.

How to Prepare Sevai to make Thakkali Sevai Recipe:

How to make Rice Sevai at home

Step: 1 Boil the water and then drop the Rice Sevai into the water. The water level should be just above the Rice noodles.

Step: 2 Rest the Sevai for 15 mins without disturbing it. After 15 mins you can see the Sevai risen up and it is very fluffy and separate.

Step:3 Drain the water completely and set aside.

  1. Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds. Let it splutter. Add the Dry red chili, curry leaves fry well. Add the cashews and fry well.
  2. Add the chopped tomatoes and salt, saute well. Cover the lid and cook well for a minute or till the tomatoes turns mushy.
  3. Add the rice sevai and mix well. Finally, add the coriander leaves mix well. Tomato sevai is ready to serve.

Tomato Sevai Recipe, Rice Vermicelli(sevai) is tossed in spicy tomato gravy and served for Breakfast.

Ingredients
  • 200g Rice Sevai
  • 2 tomatoes(Medium Sized), finely chopped
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 dried red or green chilies
  • A generous pinch of turmeric powder
  • A generous pinch of asafoetida
  • few sprigs of curry leaves
  • 2-3 tsp of sesame oil
  • coriander leaves for Garnishing
  • salt to taste
Instructions

Notes
Add a Generous amount of ghee to get a good taste.
Either you can add fresh tomatoes or Tomato Puree.
Add nuts of your choice to make it rich.
Adding sambar powder gives a nice taste, you can add chili powder instead sambar powder.
