Namak Para(pare) and Shakkar Para(Pare) Recipe
Namak Para or Namak Pare is the savory snack and the Shakkar Para or Shakkar Pare is the Sweet snacks. I made Namak Pare with Maida and Shakkar Para with Wheat flour. Namak Para recipe which I shared here is no spicy Namak Para Recipe(for Kids). Less salt and Healthy version. Shakkar Para recipe also with less sweet. Since very fewer days for Diwali readers will try these delicious snacks, that’s why I mingled both the recipes in the same post. Anyways you will get the clear idea because I have explained everything clearly. Detailed video of Namak Pare and Shakkar pare both my neighbor helped me to make and I did the video. She has a nice collection of recipe and all are very easy to make. More shakkar pare we all loved the Namak pare. Two batches I have made after that. But all over. Need to make again for Diwali 🙁
Namak Para Recipe step by step Pictures and Instructions:
Take a cup maida in a wide bowl and then add 1/2 tsp salt. Now add the 1 tsp Jeera, 1 tsp ajwain and mix well. You can add the 1 tsp Chilly powder at this stage to make it spicy Namak Para or you can add ground chillies also. I skipped adding it since I made it for kids. Add 2 tbsp oil finally and crumble the flour well. Add water(approximately 1/3 cups) little by little, knead the dough well like a stiff dough. Once done cover it with a wet cloth and leave it for 10 mins.
After that divide the dough into 2 to 3 batches and make large sized Chapati,using the rolling pins. Cut into your desired shapes like lengthy strips or kaju katli shape, with the sharp knife. Repeat this for next batches and cut them into stripes, make ready for frying. Heat the oil and deep fry the Namak Pare.Once it becomes golden brown and crispy, remove it from the stove. If you want to bake the strips, then arrange it on a greased baking tray and bake it for 20 mins at 160 degrees. Baked Namak Pare is Ready
Easy and Crispy Namak Para Recipe in Detail Below,
- 1 cup maida
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp jeera
- 1 tsp carom seeds or ajwain
- 1 tsp chilly powder
- 2 tbsp oil
- ⅓ cups water
- oil for frying

2. always fry in low to medium flame.It will change color soon but won't be crispy.
Shakkar Pare Recipe with step by step pics and Instructions.
As I mentioned earlier Shakkar para is the Sweet Version and I have made Shakkar para with wheat flour and soaked in sugar syrup. No one have sweets much in my home so made it very little quantity, As per you wish you double or triple the quantity.
Take 1 cup Wheat flour in the bowl, add 2 tbsp ghee or oil. Combine the flour well. If you press the flour with your hand it will form a lump without falling is the right consistency to make the dough. Add water(approximately 1/3 cups) little by little and knead the dough to a stiff dough.
The consistency should the chapati dough like pliable and soft. Then divide the dough into 2 batches and make bigger size chapati using the rolling pins. Cut the shakkar pare into small strips, as per your desire shapes. Repeat this for other batches and make ready for frying the Shakkar Para.
Deep fry the shakkar para in oil on low to medium flame. Once it started turning golden brown and Crispy, remove it from the stove. Now make sugar syrup, by boiling 1 cup sugar with 1/3 cup water. Once it reaches the 2-3 string consistency switch off the stove.
Immediately add the Fried shakkar para and coat well with the hot sugar syrup. Drain and keep on a plate, at room temperature. After the few mins, sugar crystalize on top and your shakkar para is ready to munch.
Shakkar Pare Recipe in Detail below,
- 1 cup wheat flour

- 1 cup sugar
- ⅓ cups water

fry them on low to medium heat otherwise, it will not be crispy inside
Making sugar syrup is a very important step if it is very thin it will not crystalize.
