I love all recipe which makes with Paruppu dal like Paruppu Vadai, Paruppu sadham, Urundai Kuzhambu(mom’s version), Paruppu Thogaiyal, Paruppu usili. My mom makes paruppu urundai kuzhambu in puratassi satarday thaligai and it is very healthy and nutritious if you take in the fasting day. Mor Kuzhambu varieties like Mor Kuzhambu with vada, and so many. but this is like similar Mor Kuzhambu Variety which requires no vegetables.
Actually this post was sleeping inside the draft for long. Yesterday I saw one of my blogger friend shared her menu in FB page then only i remember, i too have this post in draft. Then decide to publish it. I know Paruppu urundai mor kuzhambu is every one favorite. We can have this with steamed rice or with dosa, idli and rotis too.
How to make Paruppu Urundai Mor Kuzhambu Recipe with step by step procedure:
soak 1 tsp roasted gram dal and 1 tsp raw rice in water,1/2 hour before making mor kuzhambu.
Soak the 1 cup Toor dal & 2 tbsp channa dal in water ATLEAST for 1 hour.
then drain the water, grind dals with the 2 chillies, salt and ginger in a mixer.Grind it to a coarse paste and then transfer the mix to a bowl, add chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
Make small Ball out of it. Don’t Press the ball tightly, it may become hard. Now balls are ready to steam.
Grease the idli plate and arrange the balls on it. Steam the balls till it cooks or for about 10-15 mins.
Let the balls steam, Meanwhile, we will make Kuzhambu.Now take the soaked dal and rice which we kept aside to make kuzhambu, add it to the mixie jar and grind it with green chilies & a little water.Along with the ground dal paste, grind the coconut and jeera like a smooth paste. Add water if required while grinding.
add the grinded paste in a pan and then add a cup water, let it boil.add turmeric powder. The balls also steamed well.
Now add the curd/dahi with the boiling kuzhambu. mix well, after adding curd don’t let it boil for long, immediately add the dal balls.
Add the dal balls slowly inside the mor kuzhambu. heat a pan with oil temper the mustard seeds and then add hing, curry leaves, dry red chilly.Add the tempering with the mor kuzhambu and mix well.Remove it from flame. Serve it with steamed rice and sutta appalm.

Tips to make perfect Paruppu urundai mor kuzhambu:
- If you are making Paruppu urundai mor kuzhambu then soak the rice and dals, at least for an hour. But if you want to make instantly we can add roasted gram dal flour and rice flour mixed well without lumps and then we can add it,this makes the kuzhambu thicken.
- We can make the dal balls and drop it directly without steaming the dal balls but make sure that we should not stir the balls or disturb the balls immediately after adding it.
- Actually it tastes good the next day so we can make it and refrigerate it a day before.
- Before adding the butter milk beat it well and then add it.
- dont boil for long after adding the butter milk.

- Ingredients required to make dal balls:
- 1 cup toor dal
- 2 tbsp channa dal
- 2 chillies
- coriander leaves
- 1 inch ginger
- salt
- Ingredients required to make mor kuzhambu:
- 1 tsp roasted gram dal
- 1 tsp raw rice
- 2 green chillies
- 1 tbsp coconut
- 1 tsp jeera
- ⅓ tsp turmeric powder
- 2 cups mor/butter milk
- salt.
- Ingredients required for Tempering:
- 1 tsp oil
- ⅓ tsp mustard seed
- a pinch hing/perungayam
- 2 dry Red chillies
- 1 sprig curry leaves
