Pachai Payiru kozhukattai or green gram kozhukattai or Moongdal kozhukattai with step by step photos and video. There are 2 types of puranam kozhukattai is there one is moongdal(Pachai Payiru) and another is channa dal puranam(kadalaiparuppu).Moong dal puran kozhukattai is the one easy kozhukattai variety that you can make it under 30 mins. Outer cover of making kozhukattai dough is the same but only the is different. I will say this the healthy puranam because we are using the moong dal, kids will love this kozhukkatai even you can make this as a snack in normal days. Moongdal puranam is very easy to make and very quick recipe too. No need to soak for long hours and also taste delicious. My mom will not makes this puranam so i quickly refered here and as usual tried on my own way:)

how to make kozhukattai dough

bring to boil the water,sesame oil and salt in pan just for 1 minute and then switch off the stove.Now add the rice flour little by little. Using the spatula or a wire whisk mix continuously without lumps.Once the dough become soft and non sticky,stop mixing it. Now the Kozhukattai dough is ready.

how to make puranam recpeAdd the moongdal in the pan and fry for sometime till it turns brown color.

PASIPARUPPU PURANAMCook the fried dal in the pressure cooker and allow it to cook for 3 whistles or till it become soft.  drain the excess water from the cooked dal completely. grind the moong dal in to a fine paste without adding water.

THENGAI PURANAMnow dry roast the coconut and then add in the grinded moongdal and mix well. Then add in the powdered jaggery  and mix well.Cook in low flame otherwise the jaggery will get burn.Add in the elachi powder and mix well

HOW TO SHAPE KOZHUKATTAI

Once it becomes thick then switch off the stove and let it to cool down for sometimes. Now stuff it inside the kozhukattai dough and make it into your desire shape.

  • Ingredients for outer cover:
  • ½ cup rice flour
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • water as needed
  • salt as needed
  • Ingredients for puranam:
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • ¾ cup grated jaggery
  • ¼ tsp cardamom powder
  • ¾ cup moongdal(pachaipayiru)
