There are so many memories on Diwali Marunthu, i was recalling them while making this. Still i remember the aroma of the marundhu. While making this the whole house smells divine. A day before diwali amma keeps maruthani for everyone, at 3am she puts nallennai on everyones hair. After bath she gives a small ball of Diwali Marundhu, new clothes, then pattasu Good old memories!
What is Diwali Legiyam or Marundhu???
Legiyam or Marundhu is a Tamil word, Medicine in English. It is a thick paste-like Medicine used for digestion, Not only at the time of Diwali, but it is also good to have on normal days before any heavy meals. Also, very good as பிரசவ லேகியம்(postpartum medicine) improves lactation. It can be easily made using herbal/Ayurvedic ingredients.
Diwali Legiyam, Diwali Marundhu(ingredients and ratio)
In this Recipe of Diwali Legiyam, you will get 500 grams of Diwali Marundhu. You can increase or decrease the quantity. Also, you can add or Remove Ingredients according to Availability. No harm if you miss any ingredients(NOTHING IS BETTER THAN SOMETHING). Make whatever ingredients you get! 250g Karuppati (Palm Jaggery) can use jaggery also, 2 tbsp Nei(use good quality ghee), Elakkai (Cardamom), 10g Chukku (Dry Ginger), 10g Omam (Carom Seeds) 10g Vellai Milagu (White Pepper)you can use black pepper, 10g seeragam(cumin), 10g raisins, 10g Kanda Thippili, 10g Athi Mathuram, 5 Krambu (Cloves), 2 Jathikkai (Nutmeg), 2 Jathipathri (Mace)

Iyengar Deepavali Legiyam recipe or Deepavali Marundhu Step-by-Step Procedure:
- Soak everything except palm jaggery & ghee in hot water overnight. the next day using the motor pastle roughly crush the kandanthipili, athimathuram, and then grind them to a smooth paste.
- Heat a Kadai add palm jaggery powder, and ¼ cup of water(you can use the water used for soaking). Make the syrup, once the syrup started to foam.
- Add the ground mixture and mix well.
Stir continuously, once the mixture becomes thick and glossy. Switch off the flame.
Finally, add 2 tbsp ghee and let it cool down and then store it in an air-tight container.
This Medicine stays good for up to 6 months at room temperature.
Take a small ball on an empty stomach.
Anyone can have this but make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients!
