Hope Everyone started Preparations. Few are in their Home Town for Onam Celebration. Yes me too going to Celebrate with my Malu Friends O:) Already had Onam Lunch and still trying new recipe in my kitchen to share that for readers 🙂  Wishing you a very HAPPY ONAM for all my readers and Friends.

Pachadi is a tasty dish which is present in Onam Sadya Menu. It is made of freshly ground coconut along with some spices and thick & creamy curd. Very simple and Easy to Make. Basic coconut paste and tadka/tempering is same for most of the pachadi but the Cooking method depends on the vegetables. According to vegetable cooking the recipe will slightly change. All these 5 varieties of Pachadi i made on the same day. Let me share one by one. Easy Beetroot Pachadi Recipe for Onam sadya in kerala sytle. This recipe will help to you learn how to make thayir pachadi with beetroot. Simple recipe with coconut and curd.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup grated Beetroot
  • ½ cup Curd
  • For coconut paste
  • ½ cup coconut
  • 2 green chilli
  • ⅓ tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp curd
  • salt as required
  • For Tempering
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3 curry leaves
  • 1 dry red chilly
Instructions
  1. Grind the grated coconut, green chilies, cumin seeds,curry leaves, ginger and mustard seeds into a smooth paste with little curd.
  2. Heat oil for tempering in a small frying pan and add the curry leaves, mustard seeds, when the mustard seeds start popping, remove it from the stove.keep aside.
  3. Saute the grated beetroot in coconut oil, till it turn to soft.
  4. Add the coconut paste to the cooked beetroot and heat it over low flame. Allow to cool and add the rest of the curd and set it aside.
  5. add tempering to the pachadi and mix well.
  6. Serve with steamed rice and enjoy!
Notes
you can pressure cook the beetroot instead frying. But while the raw smell will goes off.
Choose good Red Beet root for Making the Pachadi.

  • 1 cup kerala cucumber chopped
  • ½ cup Curd
  • For coconut paste
  • ½ cup coconut
  • 2 green chilli
  • ⅓ tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp curd
  • salt as required
  • For Tempering
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3 curry leaves
  • 1 dry red chilly
Instructions
  1. Grind the grated coconut, green chilies, cumin seeds,curry leaves, ginger and mustard seeds into a smooth paste with little curd.
  2. Heat oil for tempering in a small frying pan and add the curry leaves, mustard seeds, when the mustard seeds start popping, remove it from the stove.keep aside.
  3. cook the chopped cucumber with little water, till it turn to soft.
  4. Once it become soft,add the coconut paste to the cooked cucumber and heat it over low flame. Allow to cool and add the rest of the curd and set it aside.
  5. add tempering to the pachadi and mix well.
  6. Serve with steamed rice and enjoy!
Notes
I have used kerala cucumber. You can try with normal cucumber also.
Let the cucumber completely cook so that the tasty of the pachadi will be delicious.
Use thick curd.

  • ½ cup coconut
  • 2 green chilli
  • ⅓ tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp curd
  • salt as required
  • For Tempering
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 3 curry leaves
  • 1 dry red chilly
