Potato Jamun

I am glad to post my 350th Post today. Thanks for all my readers and friends for continuous support. To celebrate this occasion i made this potato jamuns and sharing the recipe here.

Potato JamunPreparation Time:15 mins | Cooking Time:15 mins
Soaking Time:2-3 hours | Yields:20-25 sized Balls

Ingredients:
1 cup Potato,mashed
1/3 cup Maida/Plain Flour
A generous pinch of bi carbonate of soda

1 tsp Ghee
Oil or ghee for deep frying

For Syrup:
1 cups Sugar
3/4 cup Water
2 drops Rose essence
A generous pinch of Cardamom Powder

Method:

Potato Jamun

  • Boil the potato in pressure cooker and peal skin, mash it while it is hot.
  • Add the flour and soda with the mashed potato and knead well.No need to add water, knead well for 5-10 mins till the dough become soft and peel able.

Potato Jamun

  • Add the ghee and make it as a ball.cover it with wet cloth and rest it for 10 mins.

Potato Jamun

  • Grease your hand with oil and make it into small balls.
  • Heat oil or ghee in a pan on medium heat, deep fry the balls and take it out.

Potato Jamun

  • Meanwhile make the sugar syrup by boiling the water and sugar, till the sugar dissolves and then add the cardamom powder.Switch off the stove.Add the rose essence finally.

Potato Jamun

  • Add the deep fried Jamuns into the syrup and soak it minimum for three hour.Once it become double the size and soft, serve it.

My Notes:

  • Test the soda before you use if soda doesn’t work properly, you will not get the soft jamuns.
  • Mash the potato till it is soft otherwise you can grind it and use it.
  • No need to add water while kneading the dough because the moist in the potato is enough to make soft dough.
  • If you feel the dough is too moist then add a tsp of flour and then knead it.
  • Always fry the jamun in medium flame otherwise it won’t get fully cooked if you fry it in high flame.

Have a nice Day!!!
