Healthy Oats Onion Uthappam served with shallots sambar, Tomato coconut chutney, Kesari. Little elaborated tiffin happens for guests. Actually, I prefer uthappam with Chinna vengayam(shallots) topping due to laziness, I made it with red onions. These days choppers are my ayutham(tool) that makes my work very easy and also we don’t cry while chopping the onions, they are simply amazing.

Tips to make Soft Oats Uthappam:

Powder the oats and then use it. After adding semolina, buttermilk let it rest for 30 mins and then make uthappam how much resting time we give that much soft uthappam we will get. I usually mix the batter the previous night and then rest it in the fridge the next day morning I will make uthappam, also always make Uthappam in low flame. If you cook at high flame the outer surface will change color but the inside will not cook.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup oats
  • ⅓ cup Semolina(Rava/sooji)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • water(to adjust the consistency)
Instructions
  1. Take 1 cup oats & powder it.
  2. Add it to a mixing bowl
  3. Add ⅓ cup semolina, salt & buttermilk, mix well.
  4. Once mixed the batter will be thick, rest it for 30 mins so that the uthappam will be soft.
  5. After 30 mins, add ⅓ cup water and mix well. make it like idli batter consistencyHeat a Tawa, spread a ladle of batter, little thick & add the topping, cover & cook for a min.
  6. once the sides are golden flip the other side & cook it.
  7. Once cooked remove from Tawa. Uthappam is ready to serve

We can make instantly but if you want soft uthappam wait for 30 mins and then make it.

Take 1 cup oats & powder it. Add it to a mixing bowl. Add 1/3 cup semolina, salt & buttermilk, mix well.

Heat a Tawa, spread a ladle of batter, little thick & add the topping, cover & cook for a min.
once the sides are golden flip the other side & cook it.
