Mocha Kottai(Field Beans) Kuzhambu Recipe | மொச்ச கொட்டை குழம்பு-கிராமத்து சமையல்

Mochakottai Kuzhambu
This is also one of my mom’s fav kuzhambu recipe.she used to add drum stick and potatoes in mocha kottai kuzhambu,we all love it.Today am sharing her recipe to you all.Do try this tasty and yummy version.




Ingredients:

1 cup mocha kottai/field bean

3-4 Baby Brinjal
10-15 small onion
2 Tomatoes 

1 garlic pods
1/2 cup thick tamarind extract + 1 1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp methi seeds
1 spring curry leaves

2 tbsp sesame oil
1 pinch hing
2 tsp chilly powder
2 tbsp coriander powder
1/3 tsp turmeric powder
salt as needed


Method:

Mochakottai Kuzhambu
If you are using fresh bean just continue with the method,else If you are using dry beans then soak the bean overnight and pressure cook it with enough water and add 1 tsp of salt for 3 whistles or til the bean become soft.
Mochakottai Kuzhambu
Chop the small onion and tomatoes.Mince the garlic and slice the baby brinjal and keep it ready.Heat the oil in a kadai and temper the mustard seed,urad dal,methi seeds and hing.Once the seeds splutter add the chopped onions,tomatoes,garlic and curry leaves.Fry them till the onion becomes soft.
Mochakottai Kuzhambu
Add brinjal and fry it for a while,then add the bean and salt.we have added salt for beans while cooking. so add salt only for the gravy.Add the tamarind extract,water,turmeric powder,coriander powder and chilly powder.

Let the kuzhambu to boil till the raw smell goes.Cook till the brinjal becomes tender.once the kuzhambu become thick and the bean aroma comes, turn off the stove.

Serve it with steamed rice.

  3. Love your version of the kozambu, we call it badanekayi(brinjal) – avarekalu (beans) huli and make it a little differently. Something about that combination makes the end product very yummy 🙂
