Ven Pongal
I think Pongal is a favorite breakfast for all of us.It’s a staple food in South Indian Cuisine.Here is the recipe for the pongal.

Serves: 2-3
Prep and Cooking Time:30 mins
Ingredients:
1 cup Raw rice
1/4 cup Moong dal / Pasi paruppu
4 cups Water
Salt as needed

To temper
2 tbsp Ghee
1 tsp Pepper
1 tsp Jeera
A sprig Curry leaves
A pinch Asafoetida
5-6 Cashews
1 tsp Ginger chopped


Method:

Ven Pongal

  • Wash the rice and dal. Soak it for 5 mins and then pressure cook it with enough water and salt for 3-4 whistles or until it become mushy.

  • Heat the ghee in a kadai and then add the tempering ingredients like jeera,pepper,curry leaves,wait till the cumin seeds splutter.Add in the cashew nuts and fry it ,till light brown.
  • Then add the tempering on the pongal and mix well. Here is the hot pongal is ready to serve.

Usually pongal goes well with Kathirikai Gostu and coconut chutney!!!
