Brinjal gothsu, with freshly grounded spices is one of the popular dish in Thanjavur district, which is also the perfect combo for idli and Ven pongal!Being a gr8! fan of Brinjal Recipe,am happy to share the below recipe.




Brinjal (kathirikai) Gosthu Thanjavur Style with freshly ground spices

Ingredients:Kathirikai Gosthu

  • 1/4 kg Brinjal
  • 10 Small onion,pealed and chopped
  • 1 tomato,chopped
  • A spirg Curry leaves
  • Tamarind, a small berry size
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt,as needed 
To Grind:
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 3 Dry Red chillies
  • 1 tsp Channa dal
To temper:
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds and urad dal
  • A pinch hing
  • 2 tsp Oil

Method:
Kathirikai Gosthu

  • Dry Roast the grinding ingredients and then ground it into fine powder,keep aside. 
  • Chop the small onions and tomatoes,keep aside.

  • Chop the brinjal into medium sized pieces and then boil it with little water,till it become soft.
  • Grind it into smooth paste.

Kathirikai Gosthu

  • Heat oil and add the tempering ingredients,temper it.
  • Once the mustard seed splutter add the curry leaves,chopped small onion and tomatoes and saute well.Add salt ,saute well.

  • Add the tamarind extract and turmeric powder and let it to boil.
  • Add in the brinjal paste and ground powder, mix well.Let the gostu to boil into semi thick gravy.Once done transfer it into the serving bowl.
