Iyengar kunuku recipe with Step by step pictures and Video. Kunuku is the Quick Snack recipe made from Adai Maavu. Very famous Evening Snack recipe that often makes in Iyengar Houses. This is same like Adai Maavu Preparation but with little more thick consistency. Very healthy Nutritious snacks made with 3 kinds of dal(toor dal, chana dal & urad Dal).
Last weekend for dinner i had made Aadi and Avial. While making the Aadi i soaked Rice and dal to make Kunuku. I have used both Raw rice as well as boiled rice to make this Kunuku so that we will get soft kunuku. We can try this with coconut chutney. I have added Onion, you can skip that also if you making it on pandigai days.
This is my hubby’s fav snack and he loves to have it more crispy so i will add little rice flour to make it crispy.Since Aadi perukku is tomorrow i just wanted to share Kunuku recipe because along with Variety it tastes yum. Do try this delicious snacks at home and let me know,
Adai Maavu Kunuku Recipe with 3 Easy Steps,
Step :1
Add the raw rice, boiled rice, toor dal, chana dal, urad dal and dry red chilli in a mixing bowl. Add enough water and soak it for minimum 20 minutes. you can soak Separately or together also.
Step:2
Grind the soaked dal and rice with little water to a smooth batter like Adai Maavu. Transfer the Kunukku batter to a mixing bowl and add the onion,salt and curry leaf mix well. Kunukku batter is ready.
Step : 3
Heat oil in a pan and drop a tablespoon of kunuku batter in the hot oil. Fry it in a medium flame, wait until it turns golden brown, turn and fry in between. Once the colour changes to golden brown remove it from the flame. Crispy and healthy Iyengar Kunukku is ready to serve.

Variations in Making Kunuku,
- We can make kunuku only with raw rice. But the texture of kunuku will be little hard and crispy.
- We can use cauliflower stuffing inside the kunuku to make Kunuku Bonda or Stuffed Kunuku
Kunuku Recipe in detail below,
- ½ cup Raw rice
- 2 tbsp Boiled Rice
- 1 tbsp Urad Dal
- 1 tbsp Toor Dal
- 1 tbsp Moong Dal
- 1 onion,chopped
- A sprig curry leaves
- Salt as needed
