Kara Kuzhambu Recipe

Kara Kuzhambu Recipe:

My Mom used to prepare this Kara Kuzhambu weekly once. Her method is some what different from mine, using hand she mix all the curry powders, salt and tamarind extract in a bowl  and she check the taste before adding it into the kadai. She call this as kuzhambu kuttu.I scared to touch the chilly powder by hand, but this time i tried her method, ofcourse, the taste is really yummy than my method. One of our blogger friend Reshmi asked me to prepare this kara khuzhambu. So iam dedicating this post for her,

Ingredients:

2 drum sticks cut into medium sized pieces
1/2 brinjal cut into medium sized pieces, lengthwise
10 small onion pealed
1 tomato chopped
1 sprig curry leaves
2 tbsp gingely oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp fenu greek seeds

For Kuzhambu Kuttu:

1 cup thick tamarid extract
2 tsp sambar powder
4 tsp coriender powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
salt as needed

Method:

In  mixing bowl add all the kuzhambu kuttu ingredients and mix them well using hand without lumbs,if it is too thick u can add 1/2 cup of water while mixing and keep aside.
Heat the oil in a kadai add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds.Once it crackles, add the small onions, tomato, curry leaves.saute it for a while. Then add the drum stick pieces and brinjal into the kadai, cover and cook.
Once the veggies cooked nicely, add the kuzhambu kuttu into the kadai and mix it well with veggie.Cover and cook  in a low flame,so that the raw smell goes.
Once the khuzhambu becomes thick, transfer it into the serving bowl.
Serve with hot rice and simply with papad/kuttu.
