Karamani(Black eyed Peas) Sundal Recipe – Sweet and Savoury Versions

Karamani Sundal
Karamani or Black eyed beans or Lobia sundal  is the one which we normally make for Navratri.We love both the sweet and savoury versions.Vella Karamani Sundal is the Sweet Version of Karamani sundal and the Kara Karamani Sundal is the Savoury version of Karamani Sundal.Here am happy to share both the version for Navratri.


Karamani (black eyed beans) Sundal Recipe – Sweet Versions

Ingredients:vella karamani Sundal

1/2 cup Lobia/Karamani/Blackeyed Peas
3 tbsp Jaggery
2 tbsp Water
1 tbsp grated Coconut







Method: 
Step : 1 Karamani Sundal

  • Soak the Karamani overnight and then pressure cook it with enough water.
  • Meanwhile add the grated jaggery in the kadai and add in water to make thick syrup.

  • Add the cooked karamani into the jaggery syrup and mix well.
  • Add the grated coconut and mix well.
  • Once the sundal mix become dry,switch off the stove and transfer it into a plate.

My Notes:

  • Soak the Karamani overnight so that it cook very fast.
  • Don’t add more water while making the jaggery syrup.
  • While adding the karamani with the syrup if it turns watery don’t get panic ,by adding the coconut it will become dry.

Ingredients:Kara Karamani Sundal
1/2 cup Lobia/Karamani/Black eyed Peas
1 tsp Grated Coconut
Salt as needed
To Temper:
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
2 dry red chillies or green chillies chopped
1/2 tsp Urad dal
1 tsp Oil
A pinch Hing
A sprig curry leaves
Method:
Step:1

  • Soak the Karamani overnight and then pressure cook it with enough water.
  • Heat the oil and temper the hing,mustard seeds,urad dal and curry leaves.Add in the chilles and fry well.

  • Now add in the cooked karamani and salt ,mix well with tempering.
  • Finally add in the grated coconut and mix well. Karamani sundal is ready to serve now.

My Notes:

  • After boiled the karamani drain the water and then add it into the tempering.
  • If you add salt while coong.king the karamani,later adjust it while tempering.
