Maduri Kilangu Pottalam Recipe, Spicy Potato Masala Parcel

Ingredients
  

  • 300 g Potatoes
  • 1 tbsp Yellow Split Moong dal(Pasiparuppu)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 2 onions finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 green chilies finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp corinader powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Pressure cook 3 potatoes(300g), along with 1 tbsp yellow split moong dal + 1/4 cup of water for 3 whistles. Once cooked peel the skin of the potatoes, mash roughly, and keep aside. Also, mash the moong dal, keep aside.
  • Heat a Kadai, and add 2 tbsp oil, once the oil gets heated add 1 tsp mustard seed, 1 tsp chana dal, and 1 tsp fennel seeds, and let the mustard seeds splutter.Same time chana dal needs to turn golden(keep in low flame).
  • Add 2 onions finely chopped, and saute till it turns soft(don't brown or golden the onion. Add 2 tomatoes, and green chili and saute well. Till the tomatoes turn mushy.
  • Add ΒΌ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, and 1 tsp salt. Cover and cook till oil separates.
  • Now add the boiled potatoes, and dal and mix well. Saute for 5 mins and then switch off. Spicy Potato masala is ready to make packet.
  • Making packet is just for presentation. You can enjoy with poori, chapathi too
