Hotel Style Coconut Chutney Recipe(Thengai Chutney)

Hotel Coconut Chutney in Tamilnadu is very popular. They serve 3 varieties of chutney with hot idlis' and they taste absolutely delicious.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup fresh grated coconut(use only white part)
  • 2 green chilies
  • 2 tbsp roasted gram dal
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Take 1 cup freshly grated coconut only the white part, add it to the mixie jar. Try to avoid frozen or desiccated coconut.
  • Add 2 tbsp roasted gram dal(pottukadalai) to the mixie jar, Dont add too much just add 2 tbsp only.
  • 3 green chilies, Hotels dont use Ginger but if you feel like adding ginger you can add a small piece.
  • 1/4 cup of milk, adding milk gives nice white colour and enhances the taste too.
  • Finally add salt and grind it to a smooth paste.
  • That's is Coconut Chutney is ready Serve! Make Tadka and mix & serve!

Notes

  1. Use fresh & white part of the coconut for bright white color
  2. Adding milk while grinding gives a nice taste and white color don't skip. 
  3. Always grind the chutney to a smooth paste.
