Vetrillai Poondu Sadam(betel leaves Garlic rice) is a classic TamilNadu dish made with tender betel leaves and malai poondu

  • betel leaves 4 chopped
  • 10 to 15 garlic
  • 10 cashews or peanut
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp urad dal
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 1 tsp pepper powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup of cooked rice
  1. Vetrillai Poondu Sadam recipe, take good tender leaves with light green color (dark leaves taste bitter), chop it. Take 10 to 15 garlic cloves and peel skin.
  2. Take 1 cup of Cooked rice, cool down completely. Heat a pan with 2 tsp oil, add 1 tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp urad dal, a few cashews or peanuts, dried red chili fry well. Add the garlic fry well till it turns soft in low flame.
  3. Add Chopped Vetrilliai toss well.
  4. Add 1 tsp pepper powder, 1 tsp cumin powder, ½ tsp salt mix well.
  5. Add the cooked rice and toss well in high flame for 2 mins and then switch off the stove.
  6. That’s it Vetriallai sadam ready. Vetrialai sadam goes well with potato fry.
